My work facilitates the construction of meaning from the unexceptional. I am motivated by the notion that in order to know the world, it must be perceived differently; a familiar part of it must be experienced in an unfamiliar way. I therefore draw from my surroundings – isolating symbols, extracting logical systems, borrowing vocabularies, building with what is available – and through the manipulation of contexts and expectations, position the banal for renewed consideration.
